(Oceanside, CA, )
My 8 year old son for the past 4 years has had this pain on the top of his foot between/around the Talus and navicular. Over the years I always thought that they were growing pains, but as he got older and more active the pain has increased. At times it feels and if it is swollen, and like the muscle in his foot can just be pushed around. He feels the pain all day long, however at night is when it increases, and causes sleepless nights. It seems the more pain/pressure that he puts on the foot the better it becomes. He says when he releases the pain comes back. He has a flat foot aI dont know if this could be the cause, but I want to find a cure for this. His doctors had requested for X-Rays but those came out fine. I want to try and research information because I feel that I am not going to get to the bottome of this. The doctor says that he needs more heel support in his shoes... I believe that something else more need to be done than just extra support of the heel. PLEASE HELP....
Hi,
Without being able to examine your son this is a hard one to diagnose.
I would want to know if he has a tarsal coalition which is an abnormal bone fusion in that area. I would recommend you speak to the radiologist (since I do not know what type of doctor you took him to).
I do not see how a heel lift would be of any help. He may be a candidate for an orthotic if he does not have a tarsal coalition and just has very flat feet.
