I have the same numbness in my left toe. I've worn orthotics for about 20 years and only wear new balance sneakers since all other shoes hurt my feet. I've also been wearing a foot 'guard' thing on my other foot (right) due to plantar fasciitis. I do sometimes wear it on my left foot to stretch that one out since the plantar faciatis condition seems cronic for me.
