I have had foot problems for over 10 years. Nothing seems to work. I have been getting shots, but the pain is worse and I can not walk. My ankle, knee, hip, and back are now in pain. Would it not be better to cut it off and use a plastic foot? Who should I get to do the removal?
I am a 50 year old home builder by trade, over the last couple of weeks I have a pain which is getting progressiveley worse centered in my heels and radiating into arch, back of heel and up the ankles. I have tried different boots and inserts but to no relief. I am on my feet all day long carrying heavy weights, using ladders, on concrete and uneven ground. The pain is so bad at times that I have twisted ankles causing them to pop. What do you think this might be and is there any correction I can take?
My doctor said there appeared to be nothing wrong with my foot and that it is perhaps swelling putting pressure on my nerve and that it should be gone within 4 weeks. However this was 2 months ago and I am now getting concerned. I have been thinking of not walking on it at all for 6 weeks in the hope that it goes away, whilst using Ice and anti inflamatories.
I've been having an on-going complaint of heel pain in my right foot. The pain comes and goes but is more and more frequent now. The pain is any where from a burning sensation to sharp pain just forward of the heel. It feels like brused tissue and it aches. When I have my feet up or I'm asleep, no pain.
Assuming it is a true heel neuroma, the problem is you never know when you are going to have an attack so it is difficult to prepare for the attack.
About a month ago my achilles started to hurt. It first felt like it was a bug bit being rubbed against but their wasn't. A week later it became more painfull more often; anything that touched my achilles left it in pain. I kept running and it got worse.
I have tried a million different shoe interts and v expensive trainers also steriod injections but with no relief. I have seen consultant orthopeadic surgeons who can't seem to help me. I have tried wearing night splints which the plaster department in the hospital made for me, they gave me some relief but it was short live as the pain soon came back.
Most people do not realize that dry scaly heels many times is a secondary fungal infection (athletes foot), they just think it is dry skin. So, why not try applying an over the counter antifungal for a minimum of three weeks to see if that helps.

Diabetics in general have to worry more about circulatory or neurological problems occurring in the foot as a result of their diabetes. All the horror stories you hear about diabetics and foot problems generally arise from poor circulation or lack of sensation in the feet.
My daughter is 3 years old and since she was 1, she has been battling with dry and cracked heels. Every morning and evening we massage her feet with (well, we have tried just about every product available in South Africa) currently using a Lennons cream- which seems to help with the fissures, but does not address the cause.
I am a medical student and as such I have to be on my feet all day. I have been getting bilateral heel pain for a number of years but never paid enough attn to it till now when I am on my feet 16 hrs/day. The pain progresses during the day, no morning pain as in Plantar Fascitis.
With a history of trauma, no real relief in such a long period of time, no findings on x-ray, my best piece of advice would be to have an MRI so that the whole affected area could be adequately assessed.

Cortisone injections, altho they certainly get into the blood stream, deliver small doses of cortisone to the local pain area. The rule of thumb is one injection per week for a maximum of three weeks, in a twelve month period.
The tingling and numbness bring to mind two possible problems, one being a tarsal tunnel and two, the possiblity of a radiculopathy or nerve impingement coming from your lower back. If just the heels are tingling and numb then there is also the possibility of a heel neuroma.

Last October, I was playing a pickup game of basketball and the next day I could barely walk. I didn't notice anything while I was playing and the pain didn't show up until the next day. After several weeks, the pain went away, but in January I started a Karate class and the pain came back. If I miss a day or so of Karate then my foot feels OK, but if I go back, then the pain returns and it makes it very sore, especially in the mornings.

When I stretch my left leg (to tie my shoe or pick something up from the floor) I get a stabbing pain at the back of my heel. I don't feel or see anything unusual when not stretching. It feels like something is being torn, perhaps where the achilles tendon attaches to the heel bone.
