About three four days ago I just woke up in the morning with a pain on the top-edge of my right foot near the ankle. There is no swelling or bruising, just the pain. It feels almost like I need to "pop" or "snap" it (like you do your knuckles) but can't do it, and when I try, it only makes the pain worse. I can stand on it fine but when I am walking and I bend my foot, I get a sharp, stabbing pain. When I am off on my foot there is very little pain. When I wear shoes the pain is a dull ache. I went to my doctor last week and had an X-ray taken. The X-ray was negative and she said to continue taking Motrin and applying heat. We're going on week four now and if anything, I think the pain is getting worse. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated!
Hi Tiffany,
If the x-ray was negative then it means you have a soft tissue injury of some sort. My first thought would be a tendonitis of the tendons that allow you to bend your toes upwards. This condition generally would not hurt while at rest but certainly would worsen the more you walk.
Assuming its tendonitis they generally take a while to heal because everytime you walk on it you re-aggravate it.
That said, treatment needs to be more vigorous than just Motrin. If your doctor seems disinterested, find another doctor who will give your problem adequate attention.
